James M. Goodman and Associates is a full service entity, offering appraisals, brokerage, consultation and expert witness testimony.
James M. Goodman & Associates are here when you need us most. We are here when you need your personal possessions appraised for purposes of probate, insurance or donation. We also provide a brokerage service should you choose to sell you possessions. Our goal is to make all your transitions easier.
Appraisals
We provide appraisals and/or documentation for any given piece(s) for the purpose of probate, buying, selling, or donation.
Insurance
We work with your insurance company to value your artwork or to assist in validating a claim.
Brokerage
We assist you in disposing of your fine art, jewelry, antiques and all personal property.
Financial Institutions
We work with your financial institution to value artwork for loans and/or as collateral.
Consulting
Acting as an agent on your behalf, we determine the Fair Market Value of any fine art items you may wish to purchase.
We provide fair market valuations, valuations for charitable donations, insurance valuations for loans, indemnification valuations for government applications and auction estimates for sale.
Expert Witness
We will provide expert witness testimony, representing and advising attorneys regarding estates and/or personal property disputes.

About James Goodman
James M. Goodman has garnered his expertise of and passion for the art world over forty years of wide-ranging experience. As president of two auction galleries, he has handled such notable estates as those of Judy Garland, Mary Pickford, E.F. Hutton, Jascha Heifetz and C.B. Demille.
A founding member of the International Society of Appraisers, Southern California Chapter, Mr. Goodman served as both president and vice-president, and was the recipient of ISA’s Distinguished Service Award. He co-founded International Network of Appraisers, is regularly called upon as an expert witness and to appraise major collections and estates.
As an art consultant, he has counseled and acquired art for major international collections. As a fine art appraiser and expert witness, Mr. Goodman is often called upon by such organizations as the FBI, IRS and The Department of Justice from which he holds letters of recommendation.
Mr. Goodman acted as lead appraiser on behalf of The Department of Justice in the Richard Nixon Presidential papers case, that was successfully argued in Judge Penn’s court in the District of Columbia.
In addition to the above activities, Mr. Goodman is the past senior art columnist for the Design Magazine for which he wrote a monthly art column.
